  • 🟨 Yellow β€” enter letters that appear in the word but in the wrong position

What is Octordle?

Octordle is the most challenging Wordle variant. You must solve 8 five-letter word puzzles simultaneously using only 13 guesses total β€” fewer than 2 guesses per word on average.

Less than 2 per word β€” efficiency is everything

Octordle Strategy

  • First 3 guesses = pure information β€” use STARE + CLOUD + MINBY (or similar non-overlapping words) to map the alphabet across all 8 boards
  • Use the shared guess panel β€” it identifies words valid on multiple boards simultaneously, the highest-leverage guesses in the game
  • Each board is fully independent β€” a gray letter on one board can still appear in every other board's word
  • Solve easy boards early β€” mark them solved to reduce noise and let the shared guess algorithm focus on remaining boards
  • Group boards by similarity β€” boards sharing multiple confirmed letters often benefit from the same next guess
  • Stay organized β€” use this solver to track each board rather than relying on memory alone

Recommended Opening Sequence

Guess 1: STARE

Tests S, T, A, R, E β€” five of the most common English letters

Guess 2: CLOUD

Adds C, L, O, U, D β€” no overlap with STARE

Guess 3: BUMPY or NYMPH

Tests B/N, M, P/Y remaining common letters for maximum board coverage

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Using opening words that share letters (wastes information budget)
  • Trying to solve one board at a time early on β€” spread information gathering first
  • Ignoring the shared guess feature β€” it's the key differentiator for Octordle vs single-board play
  • Not marking boards solved β€” clutters the solver and dilutes the shared guess calculation
  • Panicking when multiple boards look hard after guess 5 β€” there are still 8 guesses left
