About the Scrabble Dictionaries

SOWPODS / CSW (International)

The official Scrabble dictionary for UK, Europe, Australia, and most international tournaments. SOWPODS combines the North American word list with the British word list, making it the largest official Scrabble dictionary with over 270,000 words.

TWL / NWL (North America)

The Tournament Word List (TWL), also called the Official Scrabble Players Dictionary (OSPD), is used in North American Scrabble tournaments. It contains around 187,000 words.

Large English Dictionary

A comprehensive general English word list covering a broad range of valid English words beyond the standard Scrabble dictionaries.

Tip: A word valid in TWL is almost always valid in SOWPODS too, but not vice versa — SOWPODS includes many words not accepted in North American play.
