What is the SAT?

The SAT is a standardized test widely used for college admissions in the United States. It assesses your skills in Reading, Writing, and Math, providing colleges with a common measure to compare applicants from different schools and backgrounds.

Test Structure

Digital SAT Format

  • Total Time:2 hours 14 minutes
  • Score Range:400-1600
  • Format:Adaptive digital test

Test Sections

Reading and Writing

  • 2 modules, 27 questions each (54 questions total)
  • 64 minutes total (32 minutes per module)
  • Score range: 200-800

Content Areas:

  • Information and Ideas: Understanding and analyzing texts
  • Craft and Structure: Word choice, text structure, and purpose
  • Expression of Ideas: Rhetorical synthesis and transitions
  • Standard English Conventions: Grammar, usage, and punctuation

Math

  • 2 modules, 22 questions each (44 questions total)
  • 70 minutes total (35 minutes per module)
  • Score range: 200-800
  • Calculator allowed for all questions

  • Algebra: Linear equations, systems, and inequalities
  • Advanced Math: Quadratics, functions, and polynomials
  • Problem Solving and Data Analysis: Statistics, probability, and data interpretation
  • Geometry and Trigonometry: Shapes, angles, and trigonometric functions

Adaptive Testing

The digital SAT uses multistage adaptive testing. Your performance on the first module of each section determines the difficulty of the second module:

  • Strong performance on Module 1 leads to a harder Module 2
  • Lower performance on Module 1 leads to an easier Module 2
  • The difficulty of your second module affects your final score
